Team Pirates Badgers

For three weeks over the 2010 Christmas period Team Pirate Badgers, Gosport man John Gledson and his brother Tony  will be departing from Portsmouth and driving to Timbuktu in Mali to raise money for the charity Brain Tumour UK on behalf of their mother, Maureen Gledson, who passed away after losing her battle with an aggressive brain tumour.

It was last December when their mother collapsed at home in France and was rushed into hospital. The doctors in Limoges quickly diagnosed a brain tumour. Ten years previously she had successfully beaten a benign tumour and recovered, this time however the tumour was malignant.

Brain Tumour UK is the leading, caring charity committed to fighting brain tumours by providing support, funding research and raising awareness.’

The following months were difficult and harrowing, sadly their mother, Maureen Gledson passed away on 10th June 2010.

It wasn’t until after this that they discovered Brain Tumour UK; ‘and  decided to try their utmost to raise money for the charity. The Timbuktu Challenge very soon became their prime focus but after suggestions from friends and family decided to do more than this.

The campaign kicked off with a charity karaoke and disco at The Fareham pub in Fareham which was a huge success drawing a huge crowd, even an Elvis or two turned up.

The first Pirate Badger Bash is planned for the 13th of August. Six local bands, four new, young up-and-coming bands and two more established, experienced bands will be playing at The Thorngate Hall.

Following this the aim is to organise a larger event at a bigger venue. Time and date to be confirmed.
